Journey start from Haridwar

We commence the journey to Tungnath Temple from the city of Haridwar, beginning with the auspicious sight of the large statue of Mahadev. The journey from Haridwar to Chopta spans approximately 230 kilometers, winding through various towns amidst the scenic beauty of the mountains.

Let’s learn about some interesting facts about the city of Haridwar:

  • Haridwar, where the sacred river Ganga flows, is considered the holiest place in our Hindu faith.
  • Taking a dip in the Ganga River in Haridwar washes away all sins.
  • Haridwar is a spiritual city known for its faith and purity.
  • The Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, is also organized here.
  • The Ganga Aarti in Haridwar is very famous, where people worship the Ganga River.

Meet the Adventure land Rishikesh

As I mentioned earlier, while traveling from Haridwar to Chopta to reach Tungnath Temple, one will encounter many towns, with Rishikesh being one of them. Rishikesh is a city filled with beauty and adventure. It is also known as the “Yoga Capital.”

Let’s explore some interesting facts about the city of Rishikesh:

  • Rishikesh, also known as the “Yoga City,” is home to many yoga centers where daily yoga practices and programs are conducted. Numerous foreigners visit Rishikesh to understand and immerse themselves in meditation, yoga, and Indian culture.
  • Rishikesh earns its nickname “Adventure Land” due to its offering of various adventure sports such as bungee jumping, rafting, kayaking, and many other activities.

Devprayag: Meeting of Two Rivers

Devprayag is one of the holy places where the holy rivers Bhagirathi and Alaknanda merge. At this confluence, these two holy rivers together form the river Ganga. These rivers are also known as “mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Rivers”, names given by humans without any connection to religion or mythology. One river flows calmly while the other is turbulent, so the clear water of one river and the slightly muddy water of the other are of different colors.

In the swift flow of the stream,

Where the calm stream finds its way,

Their meeting at the confluence is grand,

A new stream is formed by the union of both.

धारा के तेज प्रवाह में,

जहां शांत धारा अपना रास्ता ढूंढती है,

संगम पर उनका मिलन भव्य,

नई धारा दोनों के मिलन से बनती हैं।

According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Rama and King Dasharatha visited Devprayag and performed penance here. There is also a temple of Raghunath ji dedicated to Lord Rama, where people worship him.

While covering the trek, you will get to see breathtaking views that you might have never seen before. Along the way, what will attract you the most are the Burans flowers, with their different colors.

People abundant these flowers in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand and even use them to make juice. This path surrounded by trees will provide you shade from the sun’s rays as you move forward.

They explained that this ticket serves primarily for security purposes, ensuring that they have information about all trek participants and can provide assistance in case of any unexpected incidents.

Chandrashila Trek

About 1 kilometer trek from the Tungnath Temple lies the Chandrashila Peak, nestled in the high mountains. According to Hindu beliefs, as mentioned in the Ramayana, Lord Rama freed Goddess Sita from the captivity of the demon king Ravana by defeating him. However, Ravana was a Brahmin, and as atonement for the sin of killing a Brahmin, Lord Rama performed worship of Lord Shiva at the Chandrashila Peak.

I visited in late March, which resulted in snow covering the area. Due to the melting snow, I couldn’t reach the Chandrashila Peak. However, I’ve heard that the views from there are nothing short of heavenly. I highly recommend everyone to visit and share their experiences with all of us.
